Curriculum Integrity Policy Proposal:
The following petition requests that the SJUSD Board adopt a policy affirming seven principles already supported by federal and state laws, as well as existing board policies. This proposal clarifies the policies regarding extra-curricular materials and the associated rights of teachers and parents:
Curriculum Adherence:
Teachers must follow the district-adopted curriculum and ensure compliance with the California Education Code.
Supplemental Materials:
All classroom materials, including decorations, posters, and media, must align with district goals and supplement, not replace, Board-adopted resources.
Parental Review:
Parents have the right to review all classroom and supplemental materials, ensuring transparency and involvement in their child’s education.
Extra-Curricular Materials Approval:
Any non-curriculum materials must be approved by the Superintendent before being introduced in the classroom.
Parental Notification and Opt-Out:
Parents must be notified when extra-curricular materials are used and given the option to opt out.
Teacher Speech Alignment:
All teacher speech, including classroom decorations and media, must be directly aligned with curriculum objectives.
Teacher Neutrality:
Teachers must maintain neutrality.

The Santa Clara County Civil Grand Jury recently issued a report criticizing Board Trustees’ overall lack of transparency, failure to ensure accountability and leadership, and for not video recording, live streaming or publishing their presentations. Parents and the public have the right to know what occurs in these public meetings.
Parents are ultimately responsible for the care and upbringing of their children. The schools’ role is to support parents in these responsibilities.
As a trustee, I will work with parents and educators to ensure that your children receive an education that will propel them into adulthood with the tools they need to be healthy, productive community members.
As a mother of three teenage girls, I’m highly invested in what their future will look like. Four years ago, I started an organization to develop leadership skills in people who want to make a difference in our community. Education is a lifelong pursuit, and is essential in leadership and positive change. Having earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Architectural Engineering and Graphic Communications, I have learned that there is no substitute for building practical life skills–whether through STEM subjects, critical thinking, or innovation.
Academic proficiency must be our focus rather than aspects of the curriculum that promise far-reaching results but leave students with significant gaps in their education. I will always advocate for parental rights and for strong teamwork and communication between parents and educators, with the goal being the best interests of the student's innate talents and the family's values as they find their places in our future communities.
On the board, I’ll put students first by ensuring that essential resources get to the classrooms where they are needed. I’ll protect the wellness and safety of students and educators, increase leadership retention, and fight for parents’ rights, transparency, and accountability. I will advocate for the rights of parents to review all curriculum, school programs, textbooks, and library books. I will ensure that parents can opt-out their child from any curriculum that violates their family’s values, and have public access to board meetings that reflect topics vital to the community.
A vote for Nicole Gribstad is a vote for transparency, parents’ rights, and academic excellence in your children’s lives.
I’m honored to have your vote.
